Environmental & Sustainability Policy
1. Our Commitment
Strategic Demolition Disaster Relief (SDDR) recognizes that demolition and emergency recovery operations have a direct impact on the environment. We are committed to minimizing our ecological footprint by implementing sustainable work practices and ensuring strict compliance with the Environment Protection Act 2017 (Vic) and all relevant Victorian EPA guidelines.
2. Core Objectives
Our primary environmental objectives are to:
-
Waste Minimization: Maximize the diversion of debris from Victorian landfills through on-site sorting and the recovery of recyclable materials (concrete, brick, steel, and timber).
-
Contamination Management: Ensure the safe identification, containment, and disposal of hazardous materials, such as asbestos and contaminated soil, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
-
Pollution Prevention: Implement rigorous site controls to prevent sediment runoff, dust emissions, and noise pollution from affecting the surrounding community and local waterways.
3. Operational Sustainability
To achieve these goals, SDDR will:
-
Resource Recovery: Prioritize the "Salvage First" approach in demolition projects to reclaim high-quality building materials.
4. Responsibilities
-
Management: Will provide the necessary training and resources to ensure all environmental targets are met and that the team remains informed of legislative changes.
-
Employees and Contractors: Are responsible for adhering to site-specific environmental controls and reporting any potential spills or environmental hazards immediately to the Site Supervisor.
5. Continuous Improvement
SDDR is committed to the ongoing review of our environmental performance. We actively seek out new technologies and methods to improve resource recovery and reduce the environmental impact of disaster recovery in Victoria.
